Directions:

We are located in the city of San Mateo, California which is approximately 15 miles south of San Francisco-- about Half way between SF and Palo Alto where Stanford University is located.  We are approximately 35 miles North of San Jose and are right on the edge of the Silicon Valley.

The San Francisco International Airport (SFO)  is located five minutes from North TJPMD.  San Jose International Airport (SJC) is located about 45 minutes to the South of TJPMD.

From SF/SFO (North):

Take US Highway 101 South, two exits past the SF Intl. Airport. (Broadway, Burlingame).

  • Proceed West on Broadway across the railroad tracks to California street which  the main street with Light.
  • Take left on California and proceed South for approx. 3 miles to Peninsula Avenue .
  • Take left on Peninsula Avenue and cross the railroad tracks again, and you take a right at the first street you come to which is Woodside Way.  There is a Shell gas station on the corner.
  • On your right, you will see a row of small two story art deco buildings.
  • Park on the street, and enter through a door which reads 865 and come right up the stairs to the top flat.

From San Jose (South):

  • Proceed North On US 101
  • Exit at Peninsula Avenue, and proceed through overpass, maze.  Be careful, it is confusing.  And try to get to the West side of the Freeway on Peninsula..
  • Proceed west on peninsula for approximately one mile and take a left on Woodside.

Public Transit to TJPMD

  • CALTRAIN, a passenger rail system runs from downtown San Francisco to San Jose and the Burlingame Ave. Station is located five minutes from TJPMD by walk.  Taxis are normally available during the day hours.  (schedule & maps)
  • SAMTRANS, the San Mateo County Transit District offers numerous bus lines running throughout the Peninsula.  Lines begin at the Transbay Terminal in San Francisco and run to the San Francisco International Airport and down the main corridor of the Peninsula: El Camino Real.
  • BART, the Bay Area Rapid Transit system, terminates at Millbrae Station which is two small towns away from San Mateo.  You can transfer either to the CALTRAIN (station is 100 yards from BART) or take a SAMTRANS Bus.  Schedules are coordinated and make sure to get a transfer ticket.  On Bart you can access the East Bay and also Oakland International Airport (OAK).

Facility:

TJPMD is located in a two story townhouse ion a row of art deco buildings that were built in the 1920s in what is now called the Studio Tract.  Because of the excellent weather all year round in San Mateo, this area was chosen by Universal Studios in the 1920s as production area for movies.  TJPMDs headquarters was originally a work shop living space for cabinetmakers and other crafts persons in the motion picture industry.  Although little agriculture is left in the area, you can visualize the rows of walnut trees in nearby orchards that were prominent in the 1900s.  About 1/4 mile from TJPMD is located the site of the original San Mateo Assestencia which was part of the Spanish Mission system in the 1700s and later the Ranch San Mateo during the Spanish land grant era.  (view map)
